MONUMENT AT THE SITE OF THE DEATH CAMP IN OZARICHI

On the territory of the modern Kalinkovichi district in March 1944 there was a complex of German concentration camps, which is known as the Ozarich death camp. Over 50,000 people were held there. More than 20 thousand were killed, died of hunger, cold and disease.

The Ozarichi complex consisted of three concentration camps. They were woodlands fenced with barbed wire and swampy territory, on which there were no buildings like huts or dugouts. People in any weather slept on the bare ground. The prisoners were starved, they were not given water, they were forbidden to make fires. According to eyewitnesses, from 70 to 100 people died in the camp every day.
